People who have not used our instruments before, will be asked to go through a standard training procedure for 1D NMR unless operation proficiency is displayed. NMR training will be provided by the Facility Manager. You should contact him if you want to get access to one or both spectrometers.
Basic Training
Before training on the instrument, you should know the basic experimental NMR concepts. Reading NMR handout may help.
During the training session(s) the instructor will show you how to:
1 Sign-up online for the instrument time, login to the system, and start NMR software.
2 Insert the sample into the magnet, check spinning, temperature, etc.
3 Lock the sample and shim (z1 and z2 gradients).
4 Setup 1D proton experiment.
5 Setup 1D carbon experiment.
6 Process and save NMR data.
7 Print the spectrum.
8 Leave the instrument and logout when you finish.
After the training you should practice under supervision of an authorized NMR user. You can ask somebody from your research group or you can make an appointment with NMR Manager. You are not allowed to use the spectrometers alone. Please, bring your own samples. The Facility does not provide any "training" samples.
When you think you are comfortable with operating the spectrometer(s) after several hours of hands-on practice and willing to get checked out, make an appointment with the Manager. The checkout procedure includes:
a Setting up, running and processing a standard 1D experiment.
b Answering some questions related to spectrometer operation or data processing.
If you have successfully passed the checkout you will get access (username and password) to our system(s). If you are not qualified you will have to spend some more time practicing and studying necessary materials.
Advanced - On Demand Training
Organization and scheduling of additional training courses (advanced techniques etc) will be done in a timely and practical fashion as the needs suggest.
