Electron Paramagnetic Resonance Facility

This laboratory is located in the basement of Maeser Laboratory (room 062). It is equipped with a Bruker EMXplus spectrometer.

Spectrometer Features:

  • Microwave Frequency: CW X-Band (9.0 - 9.8 GHz).

  • X-band Solid State Ultra Low Noise Microwave Bridge (200 mW max leveled source output, 60 dB max attenuation, 60 MHz tuning range).
  • Integrated Bridge Controller with real time display (automated tuning and cavity matching). Full Ethernet control of all functions.

  • Digital Ultra High Resolution Hall Field Controller (100 G – 18 kG operating range, up to 0 – 18 kG in one scan sweep range).

  • High Linearity Modulation Amplifier Module: 500 Hz – 120 kHz
  • High Sensitivity Probehead with optical window for CW-EPR in X-band (up to 10 mm sample tube access, 20 G max modulation amplitude, automated cavity matching, unloaded Q > 15,000, sensitivity weak pitch: 1800 : 1).

  • Variable Temperature Unit (liquid nitrogen operation): 100 - 500 K.

  • Liquid helium cryostat:  4 - 100 K.

Experiments:

  • Room Temperature

  • Time Scans (kinetics studies)

  • 2D (a second parameter can be varied along with the magnetic field)

  • Cryogenic experiments:

    • VT unit, using liquid nitrogen, range: 100 – 500 K.
    • Liquid helium cryostat, range: 4 – 100 K.
